Building the Future of Gaming: Oasys Tech Roadmap – from Consumption to Investment

As Oasys nears the second anniversary of its inception, we’d like to take the time to look at the current state of the blockchain in the context of the overall trends in the crypto world centred around Ethereum. Amid a strong season of strategic partnerships and new integrations, we are now announcing the Oasys Technology Roadmap, which focuses on growing and developing the overall ecosystem with a focus on “App Data Availability.” Our goal to achieve “App Data Availability” (the continuity of assets) in the gaming industry will ensure that players’ memories and records are permanently secured and preserved – a transformative shift from the current centralised gaming experience.

When we refer to Gaming Assets, we are talking about the digital assets players acquire within games, such as items, characters, equipment, scores, and achievements. In traditional web2 games, these assets are often lost if the game is discontinued. This leads to immense losses for gamers who have invested time, efforts and, many times, money into playing a game and building their assets.

Blockchain technology is the key to digital sovereignty. By leveraging the immutable and permanent nature of the decentralised ledger, Oasys can store these assets to give users more control and safety in engaging with, transacting, using and interacting with their assets. With that in mind, there are several challenges existing blockchains face that we address with our Technological Roadmap and approach.

The lack of App Data Availability,  Layer2 Interoperability, and Ecosystem Scalability are the three core components Oasys aims to address as it continues to evolve independently as a unified scalable ecosystem.

Technical Challenges and Solutions

App Data Availability (Continuity of Gaming Assets)

Current Issues: Many Layer 1 blockchains, including Ethereum, are discarding Layer 2 data as they move toward a modular architecture. While this approach promises to solve the issue of compartmentalisation between different base layers, it creates a new problem –  the lack of user asset continuity. Oasys also faces the potential impact of this problem on “Gaming Assets” generated on Layer2.

Solution: Oasys adopts a new approach – by mirroring Layer2 “Gaming Assets” on Layer1, we can provide the permanent and continual protection of user assets. In the event of Layer2 data discard user assets remain safe.

Layer2 Interoperability

Current Issues: Generally, blockchains face difficulties with data and asset transfers between different Layer2s due to limited interoperability. Similarly, Oasys, with over 10 operational Layer2s, is working on ensuring interoperability among the different Layer2s (also called Verses in the Oasys ecosystem).

Solution: Oasys introduces cross-chain bridges, adopts common data formats, and standardises APIs to achieve seamless interoperability between different Layer2s. Users can easily and safely move data and assets while retaining full control over them between games on Oasys.

Ecosystem Scalability

Current Issues: Building a unique ecosystem for each blockchain poses a considerable challenge. In the Oasys ecosystem, Layer2s are deployed and operated by companies and game developers (third parties), linking the effort for ecosystem construction to business continuity.

Solution: Our close collaboration with ecosystem partners and existing Layer2 operators rests on providing the tools and resources they need to support ecosystem construction and reduce technical hurdles. The Oasys Verse Developer Kit (Oasys VDK) allows businesses to access high-quality Layer2 with pre-set ecosystem components for fast development and deployment. This allows game developers to launch projects faster and focus on content development, achieving Ecosystem Scalability.

Technology Roadmap

Since inception, Oasys has always strived to address the pain points of developers, gamers and gaming companies looking to bridge from web2 to web3. Our strategy has always accounted for supporting the Oasys community and providing the infrastructure and tools they need to succeed. As we move forward, our efforts will remain centred around broadening the integrations Oasys supports and building more partnerships with established companies. At the same time, our focus will be on ecosystem stabilisation and expansion to ensure Oasys evolves on par with the dynamic blockchain space, keeping up with the trends and needs of web3.

Short Term (Within 1 Year)

Standardisation of Gaming Asset Specifications: Oasys will continue to collaborate with ecosystem partners to standardise Gaming Asset specifications. This will allow for consistency across different games and platforms for easy asset management.

Creation of Use Cases: We will create use cases that apply standardised Gaming Asset specifications in live games and provide examples of successful use cases to support developers and companies interested in building on Oasys.

Provision of Oasys Verse Developer Kit (Oasys VDK): By providing a package of proven ecosystem components, businesses can quickly access a high-quality Layer2 with pre-set ecosystem parts to reduce time and resources spent on ecosystem construction, and achieve Ecosystem Scalability.

Medium Term (2-3 Years)

Solving Issues at the Protocol Layer: The short-term roadmap is the bedrock of our medium-term efforts, which will focus on addressing issues at the protocol layer. Specifically, implementing a unique solution to mirror Layer2 “Gaming Assets” on Layer1.

Realisation of Interoperability: We will develop standardised protocols to ensure interoperability between different Layer2s, allowing users to seamlessly move assets and data across various games on Oasys.

Provision of Developer Tools: Oasys will provide developer tools that align with our vision and meet the needs of Layer2, enabling developers to evolve autonomously to further promote Ecosystem Scalability.

Conclusion

Oasys is enhancing its collaboration with ecosystem partners, including Wallet, DeFi, and blockchain developers, to achieve “App Data Availability,” ensuring the longevity and continuity of gaming assets. In the short term, we will focus on standardising gaming asset specifications and developing practical use cases. In the medium term, our goal is to address protocol layer issues to stabilise the ecosystem and promote the development and deployment of projects on Oasys.

The Oasys Technology Roadmap charts our plans forward and provides a blueprint for the steps we will take to protect user assets and build a robust blockchain gaming ecosystem. We remain committed to evolving the Oasys Chain towards a future where users’ gaming experiences are viewed as investments rather than mere consumption and digital sovereignty is a tangible reality.
