Oasys’ Hub-Layer Update v1.5.0 Goes Live: What Changes and What’s Next?

The Oasys CoreDev team is gearing up for a major update to our Layer 1 or Hub Layer, scheduled for September, and it’s set to bring some significant changes. While the network has remained stable during periods of high usage, our priority is to improve performance as the number of tools, applications and games increases. The upgrade that will go live in the forthcoming software release is set to:

  • Drastically reduce block time from 15 seconds to 6 seconds.
  • Boost performance and improve user experience.
  • Increase operational efficiency thanks to a faster block generation rate.

With the v1.5.0 update just around the corner, the team is focused on two primary goals: accommodating the growing activity on the Verse Layer and improving the overall user experience on the Hub Layer. Developers and users will benefit from these changes as the Oasys network evolves and improves.

Faster Transactions and Better User Experience

As the Oasys ecosystem expands, we have seen a surge in activity on the Verse Layer with increased usage on several Verse Layers, Halving the block time will double the processing capacity per unit of time on the Hub Layer. This change is critical to ensure the network can efficiently support the growing number of users, games and applications.

As a Layer 1 blockchain for games, Oasys places a lot of emphasis on user experience to drive the adoption of web3 games and make them easier to deploy, access, and interact with. Reducing block times will boost Verse and game performance by streamlining transactions and delivering a smoother, faster experience for users.

This new upgrade will ensure the Oasys network can handle the growing number of transactions as more people engage with the Verses and games running on it. Contributing to our mission to create one integrated, cohesive ecosystem of blockchain games and dApps that are easy to access and run at optimal speed.

While this update brings several improvements, it’s important to acknowledge the potential increase in operational costs. Faster block generation will likely lead to higher costs for validators, but the CoreDev team believes the benefits to performance and scalability outweigh these concerns.

What This Means For Validators

As a specialised blockchain for games designed for seamless, scalable applications, the performance of Oasys relies heavily on the efficiency of its validators. Whether you’re a validator, developer, or user interacting with the network, the experience depends on how swiftly and securely transactions are processed and finalised on the network.

The upcoming Hub Layer update directly impacts the ability of validator nodes to handle increased activity across the network. With the block time reduced to 6 seconds, validators will process blocks at a much faster rate, improving the overall efficiency of the system. However, this also requires validators to be prepared for the potential rise in operational costs due to the faster block generation.

Validator participation is critical in ensuring that these updates are implemented smoothly and that the Oasys network continues to scale without compromising on performance. While the CoreDev team recommends the update, each validator will need to upgrade their nodes individually. The success of the new block time will rely on the widespread adoption across the network, ensuring Oasys can handle its growing ecosystem with speed and efficiency, so we can bring blockchain games to a global audience of gamers.

By staying informed and taking part in these updates, you help drive the future of the Oasys ecosystem, making it a more robust platform for blockchain gaming and millions of users.
