Building Blockchain Games – Lessons Learned From The Oasys Builder Meetup in Tokyo


The first week of October, Oasys hosted our first meetup with builders in Shinjuku City, Tokyo. We were incredibly privileged to be joined by 50 game and dApp developers who are building and deploying on Oasys and partners who have been supporting our ecosystem in various ways. In this article, we will recap the topics we discussed at the meeting for those of you who were not at the event.

Blockchain games or web3 games often hailed as the future of gaming, bring together decentralised economies, player ownership, and enhanced monetization opportunities. But despite their promise, they also come with challenges around user adoption, design complexity, and balancing Web2 and Web3 features. At the recent Oasys Builder Meetup in Tokyo, members from our team met with web2 gaming veterans, and industry experts to discuss these hurdles and share valuable insights for game developers looking to succeed in this emerging space.

Fun First, Web3 Functionality Later – Saakuru Verse

The importance of focusing on game design and innovation above all cannot be overstated. This starts with creating a fun, engaging experience that appeals to many—especially Web2 users who value ease of access and intuitive UX.


Introducing Web3 elements like NFTs or tokenised rewards too early can overwhelm those unfamiliar with blockchain technology. It’s better to start with traditional monetization strategies and gradually integrate Web3 features to enhance the experience without causing distraction. Simplifying the onboarding process and user interfaces lowers barriers to entry, allowing players to manage virtual assets without extensive technical knowledge. Embracing decentralization empowers users and distinguishes Web3 games from traditional centralized Web2 games.


‘De:Lithe LastMemories’ Bridges Web2 and Web3 Gaming, Achieves 450,000 Downloads in First 30 Days – GEEK Verse

“De:Lithe LastMemories” is a hybrid mobile and blockchain game that has successfully attracted a diverse user base, reaching approximately 450,000 downloads within 30 days of its release. Most players are pure Web2 users who have never interacted with NFTs or tokens, while a smaller portion are Web2.5 users experiencing NFTs for the first time within the game, and Web3 native users with prior experience purchasing NFTs and importing them.


Despite the smaller representation of Web2.5 and Web3 users, latest stats show they contribute significantly to game revenue, compared to Web2 users.This highlights the strong monetization potential of integrating blockchain elements into games.


MCH Verse Enhances Web3 Gaming with a Unified, Cross-Game Experience – MCH Verse

Liquidity and transparency in virtual asset trading are critical concerns in Web3 gaming. Many games struggle to ensure that their players’ assets can be easily traded or transferred across different ecosystems. MCH Verse addresses this challenge by aiming to provide an experience as a big game that seamlessly straddles multiple titles—a concept unique to blockchain technology.


As a game-based ecosystem that combines multiple game titles, MCH Verse offers a unified experience for players. It utilizes the $MCHC token across 15 different game titles for in-game purchases, rewards, ownership perks, and buy-backs funded by game sales. This unified token economy allows players to effortlessly move assets and value between games, effectively blurring the lines between individual titles and creating a larger, interconnected gaming experience. The ecosystem also features a buyback mechanism, which helps maintain the token’s value and incentivizes long-term player engagement.


By integrating blockchain technology with Web3 game development, MCH Verse has created a thriving economy where virtual assets are not only valuable but also liquid and tradable across the ecosystem. This approach provides a unique gaming experience that transcends individual games, showcasing the potential of blockchain to create interconnected gaming universes. DeFi Verse Bridges Web3 Gaming and DeFi on the Oasys blockchain -Defi Verse

DeFi is indispensable for blockchain, especially in Web3 gaming. When players earn tokens in Web3 games, they often need exchanges to sell or manage them. While centralized exchanges are an option, many game tokens are traded on decentralized exchanges. Alternatively, players can use DeFi protocols to manage their earned tokens without selling them, making DeFi essential for Web3 games.


Recognizing this necessity, DeFi Verse operates both the gaming section (MCHVerse) and the DeFi section (DeFi Verse) on the Oasys blockchain. In August 2024, they released the P2E game “Chain Colosseum Phoenix” in MCHVerse and the DEX “GamingDEX” in DeFi Verse. Their roadmap includes upcoming projects like Neptune (OASYS L1/LSD Protocol) and Backers (MultiChain/Task Platform) in November 2024; $Z token IDO and CEX listing, and Ragnarok (DeFi Verse/Perpetual DEX) in December 2024; followed by “Re:Monster” (NFT Game) in January 2025.


DeFi Verse aims to enhance the value of the game chain “Oasys Network” as a blockchain platform. Simultaneously, they strive to act as a bridge between existing game players (Web2) and DeFi (Web3), connecting and enriching both communities. By integrating DeFi protocols with gaming, they seek to elevate critical blockchain metrics like Total Value Locked (TVL) and trading volume, contributing to the overall success and evaluation of the blockchain ecosystem.


Supporting Web3 Games With A Sustainable Model

Developing games in the Web3 space comes with its own set of challenges, notably higher costs. However, the potential for long-term returns is substantial. At the meetup, developers discussed how blockchain infrastructure like Oasys and strategies like those employed by MCH Verse can provide a sustainable profit model for blockchain games.


By leveraging cross-chain capabilities, developers can make virtual assets interoperable and tradable across multiple blockchains, enhancing the profitability and longevity of games. Coupling this with tokenised reward systems, as seen with $MCHC and SMP, ensures that both players and developers can profit from their participation in the ecosystem over the long term.
